Her Hair, His Glory: How do I love thee? Let me count the ways...

Praise the Lord!

Over the last few years, it has come to my attention that there is a lot more awareness and support for ladies transitioning and encouraging the curliness of their daughter's hair. When I first began my hair journey, I found very little to keep me encouraged. Now, I have found so many blogs and websites, I can't follow them All and they are all great!
So I began to wonder, if I am so excited about hair and so many others are excited about hair, is this love something God given that over the years we have allowed society to suppress? I distinctly remember my days of relaxers where my goal in life was to spend as little time on my hair as possible, the ponytail was my staple hairstyle even in elementary school (with the exception of picture day, of course). It was "cool" to be fed up with your own hair and insist on only having it styled at a salon.
A brief study of the Bible has already shown me that those feelings of being "fed up" are society made. God Loves hair! He really does! And if we are endeavoring to walk closer to Him, it's no wonder why most of these Hair blogs are giving honor to God for their revelation about the beauty the HE gave them on their heads. It's not weird hair, ugly hair, or anything to be ashamed of, it perfect!

1) God is the Only one who has numbered every hair on your head!
Matthew 10:30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

2) He made a covenant with an entire race of people (the Nazarites- Remember Samson and Delilah?) based on their vow not to cut their hair. And when the vow was completed they were to cut their hair and offer it as a peace offering.

Numbers 6:5, 18 All the days of the vow of his separation there shall no razor come upon his head: until the days be fulfilled, in the which he separateth himself unto the LORD, he shall be holy, and shall let the locks of the hair of his head grow. And the Nazarite shall shave the head of his separation at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and shall take the hair of the head of his separation, and put it in the fire which is under the sacrifice of the peace offerings.

3) The Bible tells us , we ladies have heavenly power with the angels when we allow our hair to grow, uncut. This was actually something I found amazingly true. In my initial journey to grow my hair as long as possible, I began to search sites about women with long hair, waistlength, knee length, etc. I was shocked to find how many websites were out there for witches! These women who openly practiced witchcraft had support sites for growing their hair and never cutting it! So, that told me that God's power is true! The devil always wants to make a counterfeit of what God created for good. And sure enough even witches know that the hair on your head is a direct reflection of the submission and spiritual power you can be given.

1 Corinthians 11:10 For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels.

4) God believes that you will know wisdom and should reverence elders by looking to someone's head. The Bible refers to gray hair as hoary. So don't dye your hair, that's only God's wisdom showing through :)

Leviticus 19:22 Thou shalt rise up before the hoary head, and honour the face of the old man, and fear thy God: I am the LORD.

Proverbs 16:31 The hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness.

5) Lastly, God values authority. He makes very definitive lines about how you are reflecting where your submission and authority are reverenced. God is the head of man, man is the head of woman. That's God divine order. A physical way God will know where my authority and my husband's authority are reverenced to is to look at our heads. Walking down the street, you'll NEVER confuse which ones the head in my marriage! God is the head of my husband, and my husband's the head of me! It's a great feeling to know how God puts those protections in place.

1 Corinthians 11: 3-6,15-16
But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head. But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven. For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered. Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him? But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.
